Safety Engineer

24-Sep-2018 Safety Engineer United States Position Summary The main purpose of this role is to provide detailed functional safety input into the specification, design, and development of safety related products within SSCB.
The role will provide detailed input to ensure that functional safety requirements are met particularly throughout the development process, and over the product lifecycle in general.
KEY RESULT AREAS The principle duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:
Overall responsibility for functional safety within specific engineering development projects, aimed toward the delivery of novel safety products to the industrial automation market.
Provide expert input in respect of functional safety within electronic and opto-electronic safety devices.
Ownership and responsibility for the delivery and maintenance of key documents required during the development of functional safety products.
Interaction and liaison with certified bodies to ensure smooth certification of safety related products.
This role will primarily be focused within the engineering development teams within SSCB.
Internal engagement with quality and industrialisation groups will be required to ensure smooth transition of development designs to External engagement and links to international certified bodies such as IFA, TUV will be required.
Interactions with key component suppliers in respect of safety related functions and safety implementations will be required.

Qualifications:
4 year degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical disciple.
Masters preferred.
Typically required 8
years' experience in the development of electronic hardware designs.
Legal authorization to work in the US is required.

Qualifications:
Track record of working in teams developing functional safety products.
Experience with liaising with certified bodies such as TUV and IFA from safety concept through to final assessment to achieve functional safety certification.
Experience in developing and executing test plans and Verification and Validation plans.
Experience in assembling system and component level FMEA.
Experience in developing and validating SIL calculations such as MTTF, risk assessment, SFF, systematic capability.
Experience of the safety lifecycle and requirements tracking.
Experience of working within cross-disciplinary and, ideally, geographically separate teams.
Experience and/or understanding of firmware/software development cycles desirable Working knowledge of key international functional safety standards, including IEC61508, IEC62061, EN ISO 13849.
Familiarity with IEC 61496 is desirable.
Certificate Functional Safety Engineer is a significant advantage within the role.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
